For years he served our country proudly. Now, it’s our turn to be there for him.

Meet Rico Roman. Husband. Father. Veteran. And today, a U.S. Paralympic Hopeful. What makes Rico’s story special is that he didn’t grow up dreaming of playing in the Paralympic Games. But 2007 changed all that while leading his troops in Iraq. Because that’s when—as a platoon leader on his third tour for the U.S. Army—his vehicle struck a roadside bomb. The accident destroyed his humvee, critically injuring him and eventually leading to the amputation of his left leg.
It wasn’t long after that the non-profit Operation Comfort introduced Rico to Sled Hockey—a sport he’s come to love. Since then Rico has competed in the World Championships, winning two gold medals and qualifying for the 2014 Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.
Today, he wants to share that Paralympic Games experience with his family so they can take part in his inspirational journey as he shares it with the world. But he can’t do it alone. He needs our help. That’s why L&W is matching every dollar you donate. So that we can say “Thank You” and help send Rico’s family to share in his dream to be a member of Team USA at the Paralympic Winter Games.
